Centerport Yacht Club Beach Closed to Bathing

James L. Tomarken, MD, MPH, MBA, MSW, Commissioner of the Suffolk County Department of Health Services, said that due to a relatively small amount of sewage discharged to surface waters caused by a malfunctioning pump-out station in Northport Harbor, an advisory against bathing has been issued to Centerport Yacht Club Beach.

The advisory is based on the potential that bacterial numbers in excess of New York State standards, resulting from the discharge, will impact this area. Additional Samples will be taken tomorrow.

Additionally, the following beaches remain closed:

  • Tanner Park Beach – Copiague
  • Lake Ronkonkoma – Town of Islip
  • Copiague Harbor Beach – Copiague
  • Benjamin Beach – Bayshore

For the latest information on affected beaches, call the Bathing Beach HOTLINE at 852-5822, contact the Department’s Office of Ecology at 852-5760 during normal business hours.
