Eight years to the day he died, a ceremony will be held to rename Depot Road Park after Richard Wm. Holst, honorary chief and longtime chaplain of the Huntington Manor Fire Department.
On Sept. 9, 2009, Richard Holst, 60, saw smoke coming from a bagel shop in a shopping center near where he lived. Mr. Holst reported the fire, met the first chief officers arriving on the scene and helped in the building walk-around to locate the fire. While undertaking this task, Mr. Holst suffered a fatal heart attack.

Mr. Holst was a 31-year-member of the Huntington Manor Fire Department, serving as chaplain for many of those years. He was beloved in the department, and its members were the driving force in asking the Town to rename Depot Road Park, near both where he lived and where he died, in his memory.
