East Northport FD Battles Building Blaze at Genola Cemetery

The East Northport Fire Department was activated for a building fire on the grounds of Genola Cemetery on Laurel Road, Saturday, February 23, 2019, at about 1:30 pm.
First arriving firefighters found a fully involved fire in a one-story maintenance building, and began an aggressive attack on the fire. Sixty firefighters using eight trucks had the blaze under control within 40 minutes, under the direction of Assistant Chiefs Tom Bourne and Steve Macedonio. Crews were operating on the scene for about two hours.
The Northport Fire Department and Greenlawn Fire Department assisted at the scene with additional apparatus and firefighters. Cyanide Response Team Paramedics from the Dix Hills Fire Department, Greenlawn Fire Department and Commack Volunteer Ambulance Corps were also dispatched to the scene. The Commack Fire Department and Commack Volunteer Ambulance Corps provided standby coverage during the alarm. The fire appears to be accidental in origin, and is under investigation by the Town of Huntington Fire Marshal. There were no injuries reported.
