We are thrilled to welcome students (ages 7 – 18) back to The John W. Engeman Studio of The Performing Arts for safe, private, in person and virtual classes. Our new offerings will allow us to instruct your child while staying safe and tailoring private instruction to suit each student’s needs.
 
All classes will be instructed by theater professionals with extensive credits ranging from Broadway to large regional theaters – many of whom are members of Actors’ Equity.
 
Instruction is one-on-one and will be held at The John W. Engeman Studio of the Performing Arts. Standard social distancing and mask requirements will apply. Dividers will be in place for non masked time. In addition we will follow all CDC and NY State safety and sanitation procedures during and between classes.
 
 
These courses are designed for students looking to pursue professional paths in theater.
After a 1 hour private evaluation, our professional team will give feedback and create a personalized curriculum for each student. Customized instruction will focus on College Audition Preparation, Professional Training or Professional Audition Preparation
 
College Audition Preparation
 
Preparing for your college auditions can be an overwhelming task. This course will offer expert guidance and coaching through many of the decisions your senior will be making.
  • Personally selected monologue and song materials.
  • Assistance in preparing for National Unified College Auditions
  • Help with compiling your college list
  • Preparation for your pre-screen audition(s)
  • Review of your resume
  • Selection of your headshot
  • Choosing of your wardrobe
  • Preparing for your dance audition

Professional Audition Preparation
 
Walk into professional auditions fully prepared and confident after completing this course.
 
  • Learn to present yourself confidently in the audition room
  • Put together your book with well suited and clean 32 & 16 bar cuts in varying styles.
  • Choose the monologues to show off your acting talents
  • Master what it takes to pick up dance combinations quickly
  • Choose the right headshots, perfect your resume and dress to succeed.

Professional Musical Theater Intensive
A customized and comprehensive professional training in all musical theater disciplines.
 
  • Learn about and try various acting methods. Study acting through song, audition techniques, scene study, character study and improvisation
  • Improve your singing technique and build your audition repertoire with private voice instruction
  • Improve your technique in all areas of Musical Theater dance.
  • Learn about the Musical theater business, how to work towards becoming a member of Actors’ Equity and how to be spotted by agents and casting directors
  • Work with guest Broadway performers in Broadway masterclasses.

Triple Threat Training
 
For the young performer looking to enhance all skill areas.
 
Join your instructor in person or online once a week for private instruction in all three areas of Musical Theater training – Acting, Singing and Dancing.
 
We will focus on the building blocks needed by all Musical Theater performers. Increase you skill set and gain knowledge of strengths and weaknesses to help in any future theatrical endeavors.
 
 
Musical Theater Dance
For those looking to focus on Musical Theater styles of Dance
 
1-hour private dance instruction focusing on various Musical Theater style of dance. This course will be tailored to the students abilities and preferences.
 
This is a private 6 week course, meeting 1 hour per week in-person or virtually.

Acting for the Stage
For those looking to focus on Acting for Theater
 
1-hour private instruction on Acting for Musical Theater. Students will receive instruction through scene and monologue work.

Musical Theater Singing Lessons
For those looking to focus on Musical Theater singing styles and song choice.
 
1-hour private voice instruction and material selection focusing building a healthy voice and varied repertoire tailored to the student.

MUSIC TRACK CREATION
 
Email us your sheet music at least 48 hours prior to class or date needed by and we will record and send you a professional performance track.

EVALUATION SESSION/LESSON
 
This one hour evaluation by theater professionals will help guide you as to whether or not a professional career in theater is the right path for your student. We will identify strengths and weaknesses then provide you with a written evaluation complete with suggestions and feedback from our professional team.

COLLEGE PRE-SCREEN FILMING
 
We suggest this add-on for those on the College Preparation track.
 
Film a sleek and clear college pre-screen video in our studio with guidance from a professional instructor. Includes professional taping, editing, uploading and emailing.
 
1-hour: $195 (with piano)/ $145 (no piano)
 
GENERAL FILMING MATERIALS
 
Filming for purposes of general auditions or self-tapes.
 
Includes professional taping, editing, uploading and sending to agent/manager.
