HUNTER GROSS APPLAUDS NEW YORK STATE PASSAGE OF MARIJUANA LEGALIZATION AND CALLS ON HUNTINGTON TO CAPITALIZE ON NEW REVENUE STREAM

Hunter Gross, Democratic Candidate for Huntington Town Council, is calling on the  Huntington Town Board to “Opt in” to legalizing marijuana and welcome the much-needed new revenue source.

“At a time when local governments are strapped for new revenue sources, the Town Board must accept this new reality and join our neighboring states like New Jersey and Massachusetts.  We can take the additional surplus and finally fix our roads and invest in new sustainable jobs in our Town. If we don’t opt in, the fact is residents of Huntington will purchase cannabis in neighboring Towns, while we lose the much-needed revenue. This is a no brainer!” said Gross.

” For years, white people and people of color have used cannabis approximately at the same rate. Unfortunately, people of color have faced the brunt of legal ramifications and many have ended up with a criminal record for such a minor offence. This legislation will expunge the records of thousands of Huntington residents, finally creating a path to jobs and opportunities. For the Huntington Town Board to “Opt Out”, would be ignorant by not recognizing the disparities of the criminal justice system. This is an economic justice AND social justice issue, and our Township should be on the right side of history” said Gross.
