Man Seriously Injured by Stump Grinder, Dix Hills, NY

Suffolk County Police Second Squad detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding an incident that caused a man to be seriously injured by a stump grinder in Dix Hills, July 16, 2021 in the afternoon.

 

Rubiel Cordoso Chavez was working for Traditional Tree Service of Smithtown at a home, located at 122 Ryder Ave. Dix Hills, when he slipped, lost his footing and his leg became entangled in a stump grinder at approximately 12:55 p.m. Dix Hills Fire Department and SCPD Emergency Services were able to extricate Chavez.

 

Chavez, 33, of Huntington Station, was transported via Suffolk County Police Helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious injuries. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration was notified.
