Motorcyclist Critically Injured in Motor Vehicle Crash Westbound Long Island Expressway, West of Exit 51, Dix Hills

Suffolk County Police Second Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that critically injured a motorcyclist this morning of Friday, September 10, 2021 at 6:22 a.m.

Leon Bassene was riding a 2021 Suzuki motorcycle on the westbound Long Island Expressway, just west of exit 51, when he failed to slow for traffic and the motorcycle struck the rear of a 2014 Nissan at 6:22 a.m.

Bassene, 41, of Brentwood, was transported to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore where he was admitted in critical condition. The driver of the Nissan, Cristian Hernandez, 39, of Central Islip, who was alone in the vehicle, was not injured.

The vehicles were impounded for safety checks.
