Man Arrested for DWI after Motor Vehicle Crash with Serious Injuries Pulaski/Depot Road, Huntington Station

Suffolk County Police have arrested a man for driving while intoxicated following a motor vehicle crash that seriously injured him on Sunday, September 12, 2021 at 7:21 p.m.

Robert Beegel was driving a 2013 Jeep Wrangler westbound on Pulaski Road, near Depot Road, when the vehicle was struck head-on by an eastbound 2008 Nissan sedan being driven by Elmer Penate in the westbound lane of Pulaski Road at 7:21 p.m. 

Penate, 33, of Huntington Station, was transported to South Shore University Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.    

Robert Beegel, 67, of Ocean Ridge, Florida, and his wife Rhonda Beegel, 67, who was a passenger in the Jeep, were transported to Huntington Hospital with minor injuries. 

Second Squad detectives charged Penate with Driving While Intoxicated. He is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip at a later date.

The vehicles were impounded. Anyone with information on this crash is asked to call the Second Squad at 631-854-8252.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
