Councilman Eugene Cook and the Huntington Town Board gathered with Dolores “Dee” Thompson and her family to unveil the street sign which will dedicate East Second Street in Huntington Station as Dolores “Dee” Thompson Way. The resolution was passed at the June 15, 2021 Town Board meeting.
“This intersection at East Second Street and New York Avenue is the where the Huntington Station Enrichment Center was founded by Dee Thompson, as a community facility for residents providing training in computer skills, entrepreneurship, English as a second language, job placement, youth and senior services.”, stated Councilman Eugene Cook. “Dee has served the Huntington community over the years starting with the Silhouettes, a group that opened up activities to youths in the area by connecting with local schools. Later as the Chairperson of the Dolan Family Health Center Advisory Board, is a long-time member of Leadership Huntington’s Presidents Council, a Corporate Trustee of the Huntington Hospital Board of Directors, former President of the Huntington Chapter of the NAACP and her church, Bethel AME Church, just to name a few accomplishments; all while being a wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
