Councilman Salvatore Ferro enthusiastically champions the ongoing mission to elevate the environmental vitality and visual allure of the Town of Huntington. Emphasizing his commitment, Councilman Ferro remarked, “I take great pride in endorsing the town’s beautification endeavors through the Environmental Open Space and Park Fund Advisory Committee.”

In response to the threat posed by the Emerald ash borer, several Ash trees afflicted by this invasive beetle were removed around Town Hall last year. A proactive initiative saw the successful planting of 28 trees positioned around Town Hall, reinvigorating the greenery within the location.

The nomination by David Kaufman, a member of the Town’s Department of Planning and Environment, to the Town’s Environmental Open Space and Park Fund Advisory (EOSPA) Committee highlights the town’s commitment to utilizing local expertise in environmental conservation.

The EOSPA Committee’s endorsement for funding from the Neighborhood Enhancement fund has received approval from the Town Board. This financial allocation aims to enhance the visual appeal of non-parkland areas across the town.

The vast majority of the newly planted trees comprise native species, including Swamp white oak, American linden, Northern hackberry, and Eastern redbud. The initiative supports the Town of Huntington’s Comprehensive Plan Policy to maintain Huntington’s cherished tree canopy.
