Nassau BOCES invites Long Island students to discover their passion at an upcoming open house

GARDEN CITY, N.Y., October 24, 2024 — Nassau BOCES is home to some of Long Island’s leading career and technical education (CTE) schools. Students looking to find their path, whether in the arts or in the trades, may find exactly what they are looking for at any one of three CTE high schools during an open house this school year. Our leading cutting-edge CTE curriculum consists of comprehensive courses in more than 40 different career fields. Classes provide both theory and practical application, led by teachers who are experts in the subject matter and respected professionals in their respective industries. Attendees will have the opportunity to visit advanced classrooms and fully functional shops designed to professional industry standards.

Nassau BOCES Barry Tech, Long Island’s state-of-the arts career and technical education (CTE) high school, is opening its doors to all students with a passion for a hands-on career. Come and get a “Taste of Tech” at an Open House that will be held at the Joseph M. Barry Career & Technical Education Center, 1196 Prospect Avenue, Westbury. Following an introduction to the school led by administrators, there will be self-guided tours of the state-of-the-art facility. Nassau BOCES GC Tech prepares students for a future in the workforce by providing them with the skills, knowledge and professional qualities they will need to be successful in their chosen career fields. The school boasts a new Spa where aspiring estheticians learn skin care and massage techniques. There is also a newly revamped auto shop. Prospective students and families from Nassau County are invited to tour the GC Tech campus at 150 Abbey Lane, Levittown, and to meet with expert teachers, counselors and administrators. Nassau BOCES Long Island High School for the Arts (LIHSA) invites all Nassau and Suffolk County arts students with the passion and ambition to transform their artistic talent into a career in the arts to its upcoming open house series. Tour the campus at 239 Cold Spring Road in Syosset and experience classes focused on each area of the visual and performing arts. Parents of prospective students will have the opportunity to speak with faculty, guidance, current parents and students, and to learn about the school’s prestigious Summer Arts Academy, offered through a partnership with Hofstra University.

LIHSA students receive expert instruction from experienced professionals working in the industry. As part of their education, they regularly engage in unique learning opportunities through the school’s many partnerships and residencies. In the past, students have participated in workshops led by pop-rock icon Billy Joel, the American Ballet Theatre and the Roundabout Theatre Company. Students also get to perform on the same stage as Broadway stars during the school’s annual fundraiser, Broadway Supports LIHSA.
