Officer Collins to be Released from the Hospital

Officer Mark CollinsOfficer Collins has been receiving care at Stony Brook University Hospital since early Thursday morning and will be discharged on Sunday, March 15 at 12 p.m. to continue his recovery at home.

On Wednesday, March 11, Suffolk County Police responded to a call for officer needs assistance just before midnight in Huntington Station. Police Officer Mark Collins, assigned to the Second Precinct Crime Section Gang Unit, was conducting a traffic stop. Officer Collins was confronted by one of the four individuals in the vehicle and was shot twice— once in the neck and once in the hip. The 12-year-police veteran was then transported to Stony Brook University Hospital via Suffolk County Police helicopter.
