“Nature provides us with a beautiful display of spring and summer colors.  We enjoy the scene, but often miss the intricacies within the complex tapestry.”  Mordechai Meles’ photography provides us with opportunities to explore the abstract within nature.  His interest began with flowers and roses in particular.

Closely observing the different sections of a flower, Mordechai found a wide range of intricacy from one part to another.  His focus on different angles produces a myriad of hidden possibilities to delight the eye.  By removing unessential or distracting parts, smaller details are magnified.  Some abstracts are still recognizable as flowers, while others are not.  The saturation of color, increase in contact, and distortion techniques he uses enhance the abstract imagery.  While some master photographers darken the background to enhance their subject, Mordechai chooses to create an outburst from the center out, giving the subject a three-dimensional perspective.

Artists Exhibit 3Mordechai Meles is a graduate of Pratt Institute, and has a Masters Degree from Columbia University.   He has won many prizes in local contests, including The Kodak International Newspaper Snapshot Award (KINSA).   For a short time he was a freelance photographer for the Baltimore Jewish Times.  In 2007, Mordechai’s photographs were exhibited at The Watchung Art Center in New Jersey, then in 2008 and 2010 at the Donald B. Palmer Museum.  In 2011 Mordechai’s photographs were exhibited at the Frelinghuysen Arboretum, and in 2013 at the Plainview-Old Bethpage Public Library.
