Woman Killed in Dix Hills Two-Vehicle Crash

Cassandra Walter was driving a 2000 Saturn northbound on Commack Road near Euclid Avenue in Dix Hills when she apparently lost control of the vehicle, crossed over the double yellow line and struck a southbound 2000 Honda minivan at approximately 7 a.m. on Tuesday, May 12, 2015.

Walter, 26, of Babylon, was pronounced dead at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner. The Honda driver, Alex Dario Oliva Rodriguez, 35, of Hempstead, was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip where he was treated and released.

Rodriguez was subsequently arrested for Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle.

Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks and the investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information on the crash to call the Second Squad at 631-854-8252.
