The 9th Annual First Exposure screening event will be celebrating the work of Long Island’s high school student filmmakers on May 17th at the Huntington Cinema Arts Centre from 4 – 6 p.m.
A prestigious panel of industry professionals adjudicated the showcase, choosing the best films from the Long Island Media Arts Show (LIMAS) at Five Towns College in Dix Hills. LIMAS represents the work of more than 60 school districts with hundreds of submissions. Of these, only 16 films were selected for First Exposure.
Long Island has a long history of nurturing innovative filmmakers such as Hal Hartley (“Trust”, The Girl from Monday”), Fred Carpenter (“The Blue Lizard”), Michael Cuesta (“L.I.E.”), Alexandra Brodsky (“Bittersweet Place”), and Julian Schnabel (“Basquiat”, “Before Night Falls”). The Suffolk County Film Commission is committed to supporting and encouraging Long Island’s filmmakers by providing resources and creating opportunities for the community to appreciate and share in their achievements.
Every film will be evaluated by the programming staff of the Hamptons International Film Festival (www.hamptonsfilmfest.org), and Cinema Arts Centre (www.cinemaartscentre.org) for inclusion in their programs.
