A letter to the editor from Assemblyman Chad Lupinacci:

I would first like to personally congratulate my fellow Huntington resident and Senate colleague, Senator John J. Flanagan, on his election as Temporary President and Majority Leader of the New York State Senate. Following the tumultuous and controversial events of recent months, it is clear that the people of New York desired change. I am both optimistic and confident that Majority Leader Flanagan is the one to usher in that change.

Along with the recent leadership change, there has been a renewed call for ethics reform in Albany. My constituents have spoken with a clear and unified message in support of stiffer penalties for those who violate the public’s trust.

In March, my Assembly Minority colleagues and I represented these interests and introduced 17 proposed ethics reforms. One-by-one, the Assembly Majority struck down these proposals and supported the status quo. It is my hope that, with the renewed interest in this matter, the Assembly Majority will listen to the people of New York and propose real and meaningful ethics reform.

I look forward to further bipartisan and bicameral cooperation in Albany, and I thank Senator John Flanagan for his diligence in representing the people of Long Island and New York State.
