HCFASHUNTINGTON COMMUNITY FIRST AID SQUAD WELCOMES NEW HUNTINGTON RESIDENTS

In the past month Huntington Community First Aid Squad (HCFAS) welcomed 2 new residents to Huntington Station. The first occurred July 19th on Tower Street. At approximately 3 AM a call was received for a female with abdominal pain and nausea. The crew responded to find a pregnant female being walked out to the ambulance accompanied by her mother. The patient indicated her due date was July 30th but experienced no obvious sign of imminent delivery.  She was transported to Huntington Hospital and taken to Labor and Delivery. At 6:45 AM HCFAS was called to the same location with the information that there were “No complications reported with mother or child/ Child is completely out.” The crew found the mother in bed cradling her newborn. They cut the cord and prepared both mother and baby for transport to Huntington Hospital.  The patient’s mother arrived and asked about the situation at which point the crew notified her she was a grandmother now.  While the patient was transferred to the ambulance, the new grandmother carried her newest family member to the ambulance.

The second maternity call came into HCFAS headquarters shortly after midnight August 14th. The crew responded to a residence on Foxhurst Road to find the mother had delivered her baby boy with the help of her husband and the baby’s grandmother.  This was the couple’s third child joining big brother and sister. It was determined the baby arrived at approximately 12:10 AM, Both mother and child were healthy and alert. HCFAS crew members cut the cord and transported both mom and baby to Huntington Hospital.

The crew members will receive blue stork pins in honor of these happy occasions.
