CBSRadio 880 says “there is a fight brewing over proposed rest stop being constructed off the LIE in Dix Hills”
Newsday stated that the state “Plans to build a 9000 sq ft facility with 200 parking spots.”
According to sources town officials did not know about this until Dix Hills residents called the town because
of all the trees that were being taken down. Apparently Huntington town officials were not notified by the state about this project. Some residents told the Huntingtonian “now they know how the residents feel when Town Council does not listen to thousands of signatures against projects like Avalon Bay, Seasons at Elwood or Benchmark.”
Frank Petrone stated he was outraged at the state.
Susan Berland stated on CBSRadio 880 “Right on the other side of the service road, that’s where all the homes begin, and there’s an elementary school there as well. It is very close to this facility and it’s going to change their quality of life forever. Berland said residents have been fighting against the rest stop for decades.”
Berland also stated “It’s just an inappropriate location,”
