Assemblyman Chad A. Lupinacci updated Half Hollow Hills PTA members on the status of critical educational issues during the organization’s annual Legislative Brunch on February 4.
The Assemblyman was one of several state officials, including New York State Senate Education Committee Chair Carl Marcellino, in attendance at the brunch, which also included Suffolk County, Huntington and Babylon Town elected officials.
Lupinacci underscored the importance of eradicating the Gap Elimination Adjustment (GEA) in the 2016 state budget – a move which would restore hundreds of thousands of dollars in funding to the Half Hollow Hills Central School District. The Assemblyman also highlighted the importance of internships in the post-collegiate job market.
“As a lawmaker, education is an issue of paramount importance,” Lupinacci said. “Whether by preserving equitable funding for public schools or making higher education more affordable, we have a responsibility to preserve and enhance educational experiences of all New Yorkers.”
Lupinacci, the Ranking Member of the Assembly Higher Education committee, also highlighted his 2016 higher education agenda, which includes: the creation of a student loan payment tax deduction; endowing scholarships for community college students; and launching a “Learn for Work” program to accelerate career readiness.
