Commack Middle School’s Science Quiz Bowl Team #1 won the regional science bowl and will represent the District and Long Island at the Nationals on April 28 – May 2, 2016 in Washington, D.C.
A total of 20 teams participated in the regional competition. Commack’s Team 1 won all but one match in the round robin and proceeded to the double elimination round in the afternoon. Coach Kimberly Gromov remarked, “The team did not lose a single match during the double elimination; however it wasn’t an easy win! The score in the final round was 76 to 68. It was a suspenseful match!”
Congratulations to CMS Science Quiz Bowl team members: Riley Bode, Andrew Wang, Nathan Cheung, and Faizali Rahim. Two Commack teams competed from the middle school this year, held at Brookhaven National Laboratories. Team 2 included Dylan Feldman, Nikhita Mudium, Paige Robinson, and Ryan Tedesco.
Alison Offerman Celentano, Commack Director of Science stated, “This is an incredible achievement for our students and their coach. The hard work and hours of preparation for this high-intensity competition was evident in how well both teams performed. Coach Gromov’s dedication and the team’s knowledge and enthusiasm made this win possible.”
