Assemblyman Chad A. Lupinacci spoke on the Assembly floor yesterday in honor of former Assemblyman James D. Conte and explained the importance of National Donate Life Month, which takes place in April. Lupinacci’s passion for organ donation awareness is rooted in his relationship with Conte, his mentor, who lost his battle with cancer in October 2012.

“I want to carry on the message of how important organ donation is in memory of Assemblyman Conte,” said Lupinacci. “New York is currently second to last among organ donation registries in the country, with only 25 percent of New Yorkers registered as organ donors. By registering as an organ donor, one person could help save the lives of eight people.”

Lupinacci sponsors Assembly Bill 7282, which would allow the commissioner of education to provide high schools with information regarding organ donation. This information would be available to all high school aged students and would spread awareness about the benefits of organ donation.

To become a registered organ donor, please visit the New York State Health Department’s website at http://www.health.ny.gov/professionals/patients/donation/ and start saving lives today.
