This Sunday April 24, 2016, Little Shelter Animal Rescue & Adoption Center will be celebrating its 89th Anniversary. There will be a celebration held at Little Shelter commemorating its founding in 1927 by Anna Hunninghouse and remaining as the oldest no-kill shelter on Long Island. The ceremony and grounds will be open to the public where families can take a tour of the facility and see the animals after the ceremony. There will also be recognition given to some of Little Shelter’s supporters including the dedication of the new dog pen. Refreshments and snacks will be provided.

Little Shelter would like to extend its thanks and gratitude to their supporters whose contribution is crucial to continuing the mission of rescuing animals who had been abandoned. “Thousands of animals have been rescued over the past 89 years. The devotion of Little Shelter’s supporters is incredible. We would not be here if it wasn’t for all the people who believe in our cause, from our wonderful staff, to devoted volunteers and our selfless donors. Little Shelter is a unique place in the world of animal rescue that I am proud to be a part of.” Commented President Maryann Chernovsky. “Little Shelter is a model among animal shelters, I am so proud of it’s uniqueness.”

Little Shelter is a non-profit no-kill animal shelter that relies on the support of the community to continue its mission. Every year Little Shelter extends its reach to help put an end to the overpopulation crisis that Long Island and other areas face with  abandoned animals. Currently Little Shelter helps rescue and re-home over 2000 animals a year and is looking to increase that number in the coming year. Come celebrate Little Shelter’s 89th anniversary this Sunday and if you have never been to the shelter, this is a great opportunity to learn about Little Shelter’s history while taking a tour of the facility.
