The Melville Fire Department responded to a crash involving a tractor-trailer that overturned and trapped the driver on Route 110 and the south service road of the Long Island Expressway on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at about 10:15 a.m.
Melville firefighters used heavy rescue tools to extricate the driver by cutting the cab and windshield of the truck. Under the direction of Chief Jason Bernfeld and Third Assistant Chief David Kaplan, 15 fire/rescue personnel were on the scene with an engine, heavy rescue truck and ambulance.
The driver suffered minor injuries, and was transported to Plainview Hospital by the Melville FD Rescue Squad. The truck was carrying consumer electronics in a 40-foot cargo container.
