Assemblyman Andrew Raia wants New York families to know that the state is offering resources to fight the zika virus free of charge. As New York faces a new threat of the zika virus, steps are being taken to provide residents with mosquito dunks, which are tablets that eliminate mosquito larvae when placed in water containers, as well as free testing for pregnant women.
“Having access to these free resources will help New Yorkers stay one step ahead of the zika virus,” said Raia. “There is no such thing as being too careful, and by using these mosquito-killing tablets, we’ll be working together as a community to protect against this dangerous virus.”
The zika virus is most notably spread by mosquitos, and those affected have experienced fever, rash, joint pain, and in cases of pregnant women, serious birth defects. Residents of New York can call 1-888-364-4723 or email b0019w@health.ny.gov and provide their name and address to receive a free zika starter kit.
“I strongly encourage all New Yorkers to make the call or send the email necessary to get this kit,” said Raia. “We’re all in this together, and by collectively taking action, we can protect ourselves and our loved ones from a virus that is a very real threat to the safety of our communities and families across New York.”
