Just days after battling a blaze that destroyed two cars and damaged a third on Bagatelle Road, the Melville Fire Department was called out once again to extinguish two more weekend car fires.
On Friday evening, September 16, 2016 at about 10:40 p.m., Melville firefighters were dispatched to Marcus Drive where they located a fully engulfed unoccupied car in the parking lot of a commercial building. Two engines responded with ten firefighters and quickly had the blaze under control. Chief Jason Bernfeld directed units with Assistant Chiefs Paul Mahler and Chris Nolan. The Suffolk Police Arson Squad was requested to investigate the cause of the fire.
On Sunday, September 18, 2016 at about 1 pm, Melville firefighters received reports of a fully involved car fire on the North Service Road and Bagatelle Road. The driver of the car pulled over to the side of the road and escaped uninjured. Three engines and two ambulances responded with 15 fire/rescue personnel that quickly knocked down the flames, under the direction of Captain Billy Schmitt.
