-Individuals can receive up to $150 Gift Card per gun surrender with NO questions asked-
Suffolk County Police Commissioner Timothy D. Sini will be joined by community members as he encourages the public to take advantage of a one-day gun buy-back event that will take place Saturday, October 1, 2016, 10a-1pm at the South Country Ambulance Company, located at 1309 Montauk Highway in East Patchogue.
Individuals who surrender the firearms will receive gift cards in the amount of $150 for assault weapons, $100 for handguns, $75 for rifles and shotguns and $25 for non-working or antique firearms. The weapons need to be unloaded and placed in a plastic or paper bag or box prior to arrival at the event. Residents can surrender as many guns as they wish, but will only receive payment for three. Licensed gun dealers and active or retired law enforcement individuals are not eligible for the buy-back program.
This initiative, along with the Firearm Suppression Team (FAST) program developed earlier this year, is part of the Suffolk County Police Department’s dedicated commitment to work with law enforcement partners and Suffolk County residents to take guns out of their neighborhoods.
More than 100 firearms were surrendered during gun buy-back events in 2015.
