ARTIST RECEPTION: Saturday December 10, 2-4pm
April List Today
On display December 10 – January 4, The Alfred Van Loen Gallery presents a solo exhibit of acrylic paintings by Dan Angeli. Angeli was born in Beloit, WI in 1980 and grew up in the Midwest. He studied at UW-Madison and then received his MFA at The School of the Museum of Fine Arts Boston. He now resides on Long Island.
When describing Angeli’s paintings words such as unabating energy first comes to mind. Global turbulent conditions are expressed in the components found in his compositions. A cross between Abstract Expressionist brushwork and Surrealist elements, gesture and geometry all blended together. Vibrant color also stirs ones senses in many of his paintings, he uses highly contrasts of primary and subtractive primary colors. Angeli’s embodies a unique consideration of color, gesture and structure. These paintings are about structures being ephemeral and our relationships with things being destroyed or changed. Sharp shapes appear to fly through water or air, objects are exploding or blown by forceful winds. Angeli writes that his work examines the tension between industrial structures and the chaos of natural phenomena.
