Man Arrested for Multiple Charges After Motor Vehicle Crash

Suffolk County Police have arrested a Miller Place man for driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident after a motor vehicle crash in Commack Friday, December 23, 2016 at approximately 10:45 p.m.

Suffolk County Police Fourth Precinct officers responded to Crooked Hill Road at the Long Island Expressway North Service Road for a report of a reckless driver in a suspicious vehicle at approximately 10:45 p.m. Officers observed the vehicle which fled into the parking lot of Target, located at 4 Henry Street, Commack. The vehicle drove to the rear of Target and struck a tree and a fence. The driver fled the scene on foot into a wooded area behind the Target.

Marine Bureau, Emergency Services Section, Aviation Section and Canine Section officers and the Commack Fire Department responded. Canine Section officers located the suspect, Robert Carr, standing in the middle of a frozen sump within the wooded area. Following a joint effort, Carr was taken into custody by Fourth Precinct officers after approximately 35 minutes.  

Carr, 33, of Miller Place, was charged with DWI and Leaving the Scene of an Accident with Property Damage. He was taken by Commack Ambulance to Saint Catherine of Siena Medical Center in Smithtown for treatment of minor injuries and to be evaluated for exposure. Carr was scheduled for arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip today.

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
