Man with 95 Suspensions Arrested for Carrying an Illegal Rifle and Marijuana

Suffolk County Police on January 24, 2017 arrested a Copiague man who was smoking marijuana, carrying an illegal weapon and had 95 suspensions on his license.

 

Second Precinct Crime Section officers Heather McQuade and Bobby Temple were at the park and ride on Commack Road and Expressway Drive South in Commack when they smelled marijuana emanating from a 2001 Nissan Sedan. The officers approached the driver of the vehicle, Jerry Tenzie, and discovered that he had 95 suspensions on his license from nine different dates. Further investigation revealed that he was in possession of an illegal rifle.

Tenzie, 47, of Cassata Drive in Copiague, was arrested and charged with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation 2nd Degree, Criminal Possession of Marijuana 5th Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th Degree.

 

Tenzie will be held at the Second Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on January 25.

 

A criminal charge is an accusation. A defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.

  1. Exactly what makes a rifle illegal? Does it need to be registered?

  2. Safe Act could apply here. Pistol grip, shorten, stock that retracks etc. I.E. an Ar-15 is illegal in NY state.
