SCPD To Hold Graduation Of First Portion Of Second-Largest Recruit Class in Department History.
Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone, Suffolk County Police Commissioner Timothy D. Sini and Suffolk County Police Chief of Department Stuart Cameron will preside over the Suffolk County Police Academy graduation ceremony during which the first portion of the second-largest recruit class will graduate on Friday, March 24, 2017 at 11 a.m.
Fifty-nine recruits have completed 29 weeks of academy training and have received more than 1000 hours of instruction on topics including law, emergency medical training, defensive tactics, domestic violence, mental illness, cultural diversity, emergency driving, firearms and terrorism.
Seventy-three percent of the recruits are military veterans and 34% percent have previous law enforcement experience.
Along with the 59 Suffolk County Police Department officers, the graduation ceremony will include 21 new officers who will work for the following departments: Suffolk County Sheriff’s Office, SUNY Farmingdale Police Department, SUNY Stony Brook Police Department, Southampton Town Police Department and Rockville Centre Police Department.
The remainder of this class, which includes 114 recruits, is scheduled to graduate on April 12, 2017.
