HART Bus Passengers Mandated by Governor to Wear Face Masks

Minutes after Supervisor Chad A. Lupinacci urged riders of the Town’s Huntington Area Rapid Transit (HART) Bus system wear face masks or other face coverings when riding as a passenger starting on April 15, Governor Cuomo announced an Executive Order mandating all mass transit riders to wear face masks.

Due to the Governor’s mandate, residents will not be able to ride HART buses without a proper face covering.

Do-it-yourself instructions on making a face mask, including sew and no-sew instructions, can be found on the Town’s website.

Residents are urged to avoid riding HART buses if presenting symptoms or if they meet any of the criteria for exposure; passengers will be denied service if they exhibit any symptoms known to be related to COVID-19.

While HART Fixed Route and Paratransit service are operational, HART buses should only be used for essential travel. Since early March 2020, more frequent cleaning and sanitizing efforts have been made to cover the full fleet every 72 hours. This includes but is not limited to cleaning and sanitizing all hard surfaces, such as poles, grabrails, fareboxes and door control panels between passengers on an as-needed basis.

Residents may reach HART at (631) 427-8287 or by email at HARTBus@HuntingtonNY.gov.
