Man Arrested for DWI Following Fatal Pedestrian Crash

Suffolk County Police today arrested a man for DWI following a motor vehicle crash that killed a pedestrian in Melville July, 9 2021.

Shane Decamp was operating a southbound 2016 Mazda CX-5 in front of 400 Broadhollow Road last night at approximately 9:35 p.m., when his vehicle struck a pedestrian who was attempting to cross the roadway from east to west.

The pedestrian, Kevin Higgins, 69, who is homeless, has been identified as the pedestrian killed in a motor vehicle crash in Melville on July 9,2021, was pronounced dead at the at the scene by a physician assistant from the Office of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner.

Decamp, 48, of Coram, was arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated. He is being held at the Second Precinct and is scheduled to be arraigned today at First District Court in Central Islip.
