Although the Centerport Fire Department Memorial Day Parade was cancelled due to inclement weather, firefighters held a memorial service and placed wreaths at the memorial monument on Park Circle opposite the firehouse. A similar service was held at the Centerport Beach monument on Harrison Drive.

On Saturday, May 28, 2016 at 12:18 a.m., A 21-year-old man was exiting his vehicle in the parking lot of 7-Eleven, located at 247 Broadway, Greenlawn when approached by three men. On May 25 2016, Second Precinct police officers responded to Clinton Avenue in Huntington at 3:17 a.m. after a 911 caller reported that a man was unconscious and covered in blood. When officers arrived, they found Edwin Rivera lying on the ground next to his 2015 Mercedes.
