Educational Lecture by Bill Shelley of Shelley Archives Inc

Since the 1970’s, James Taylor found his political voice and helped organize what is considered the first anti-nuclear concert. He has supported the work of Green Peace and has always lent his voice to many political causes. The songs in this program will attempt to show why the depth and soul of this talented performer appeals to so many.

The Grammy-winning singer-songwriter-guitarist and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee is loved for his unique style that blends rock, folk, and country music melodies with personalized lyrics. He began his professional recording career in 1969, when The Beatles signed him to their newly formed Apple Records. His first hit was the ballad “Carolina on My Mind” which will be featured in this program. This big screen tribute also includes “Fire and Rain,” about Taylor’s struggles with depression and drugs, “How Sweet It Is to Be Loved by You,” a wholly unique rendition of Marvin Gaye’s song, “You’ve Got a Friend,” about finding inspiration in Carole King’s songwriting, “Shower the People With Love,” “Your Smiling Face,” and many more!  (Approx. 100 min.)
