Whitman Wrestlers Win Opening Match

The Wildcats opened their league wrestling season taking on Newfield and came away with a decisive victory 49-27. The wrestlers took the first match when 98 pound Joe Calderone pinned Kyle Skally in the first period, and the Wildcats never looked back. Newfield forfeited the next 2 matches in 106 pound and 113 pound classes. The 120 and 126 pound contests went to Newfield with Whitman’s Kyle O’Rourke giving Whitman a win at 132 pounds. Newfield came back in the 138 pound class and Whitman’s Alberto Jurado dominated in the 145 pound class with a 10-2 win. At 152 pounds Terrell Legros won a close and exciting match 2-0.  Whitman’s Chris Aguilar took the 160 pound class with a pin in the 2nd period, as did Kevin Figueroa with a pin in the 170 pound class. At 182 pounds Wildcat Vincent Feola took a decisive 7-0 victory. Newfield forfeited the 195 and 220 pound weight classes helping Whitman to an easy Victory.
Whitman’s Joe Calderone, shown moments from pinning his Newfield opponent was the Andrew Peers Tournament Champion plus most outstanding wrestler voted by coaches and most falls least time, he was also the North Babylon Tournament Champion.
Whitman’s Terrell Legros wins a close one 2-0 in the 152 pound match.
At 160 pounds Whitman’s Chris Aguilar pins his Newfield Opponent.
