Whitman Wrestlers Win Opening Match

The Wildcats opened their league wrestling season taking on Newfield and came away with a decisive victory 49-27. The wrestlers took the first match when 98 pound Joe Calderone pinned Kyle Skally in the first period, and the Wildcats never looked back. Newfield forfeited the next 2 matches in 106 pound and 113 pound classes. The 120 and 126 pound contests went to Newfield with Whitman’s Kyle O’Rourke giving Whitman a win at 132 pounds. Newfield came back in the 138 pound class and Whitman’s Alberto Jurado dominated in the 145 pound class with a 10-2 win. At 152 pounds Terrell Legros won a close and exciting match 2-0.  Whitman’s Chris Aguilar took the 160 pound class with a pin in the 2nd period, as did Kevin Figueroa with a pin in the 170 pound class. At 182 pounds Wildcat Vincent Feola took a decisive 7-0 victory. Newfield forfeited the 195 and 220 pound weight classes helping Whitman to an easy Victory.
