The Huntington Town Board approved a resolution, at the July 24th meeting, to try and eliminate invasive submerged aquatic vegetation in Hecksher Pond, located in Huntington Village. During the summer months the pond is choked with invasive plant species such as Hornwart, which severely impacts the ponds recreational usage and additionally impacts the aesthetic views that the pond provides.

New York State is currently investigating one human case that is being considered as probable for West Nile virus. The individual was hospitalized for several days and has fully recovered. Confirmation of West Nile virus will be dependent on the results of further testing.
