Students of Elwood Middle School united in support of a good cause and had a great time doing it! Over 300 students took part in the school’s popular “Dodge Cancer” fundraising event benefiting members of the Elwood community who are directly affected by the disease.

Approximately eighty people attended the Elwood Taxpayers Association Meeting held at the Elwood Public Library located at the corner of Elwood Road and Jericho Turnpike. The hot topic on the agenda was the proposed senior housing development at the Oaktree Dairy property located on the west side of Elwood Road.

Students witnessed examples of the various forms of bullying, explored the feelings involved with bullying and took part in role-playing activities. This enabled them to literally put themselves in someone else’s shoes and learn how to handle a variety of uncomfortable situations. Students learned that they had the power to make the difference.
